Met Phil in about 72 in Indio while we both worked patrol for Riverside Sheriff. He could in fact drink beer! He feared nothing or no one.. except snakes. Some idiot put a rubber snake in phil's locker, and I think it took three of us to keep the idiot from serious damage. Working with Phil was just fun. You never knew what was coming next. Worked with him in Idyllwild too. Was a guy called the Midnight Cowboy who we had a lot of fun with. Little phil might remember.
I still miss him and will always remember him as a friend and comerade.
Rest well old friend. Mac

I was a new adjuster in the insurance business when Phil started his career as a fraud investigator for our company. I was eager to learn all I could and Phil was happy to teach. I had a lot of investigations to refer to him and we worked together often. The more I got to know Phil, the more I liked him. I am so very glad that we became friends and remained friends after we both left the insurance business. Phil was, and still is, an inspiration to me. He is one of the toughest, yet kindest people I have ever met. I could always count on him at the job, as a friend, and as a source of encouragement. I hope you know how very much our friendship meant to me. I'll miss ya bud

Once a big brother, always a big brother. While we shared a great deal, some of the greatest memories I have are of the times I always seemed to be waiting for you to get home! I was always telling someone I was waiting for my big brother.
You were always larger than life to me and always will be! You were the one who did what others couldn't or didn't dare try to do. I know you're home and at peace. Rest well good and faithful servant, you've earned it.
Love John

My mother and Phil's mother were sisters. During WWII, my father was a Marine fighting in the Pacific (specifically on Iwo Jima). Phil's father, a soldier, was a decorated hero during the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. While our fathers were away from home, Phil and I, our mothers, our aunt, and grandmother, all lived together in Dalton, Illinois (a Chicago suburb). Phil was 2 1/2 years older than me. My dad bought him a Marine Corps uniform when he was still practically a baby and we have a picture of this little guy, in Marine Corps dress blues, saluting like he'd already been thru Boot Camp. Phil always said he was going to grow up to be a Marine, and he did. In fact, Phil always seemed to do what he set out to do, and he did all of that quite well.
After the Marine Corps, he wanted to be a policeman, and he did. He was a well respected law enforcement officer for many, many years. He became the father of 4; stepfather of 2, a grandfather of several, and most beloved of his friends and family. Without any effort at all, he gathered and maintained life-long friends. He was sincere, loving, honest, giving and lived his life with only the highest standards. He tolerated nothing less than those same standards in his immediate family.
He will be missed by all who loved, admired, and emulated him. He was my bigger than life hero. You will never be replaced in our memories, Phil, and we will meet again. On that, we are counting!
With so very much love, your cousin, Micki

Oh the memories you gave me! You are and always will be a 'one of a kind' man. I will cherish our times at the Sheriff's office in Banning. Soar on the wings of Angels thru the heavens forever. Hugs to the family left behind. Uui
