Alyce grew up in Montana and spent many summers in Glacier National Park, while her mother worked
as a chef at Lake McDonald Lodge. She often shared her many memories growing up on her Uncle Byron
and Aunt Helen Gilman’s small farm. They lived in Finley Point, Montana on Gilman Lane. Gilman Lane
was named after her Uncle Byron and Aunt Helen, who were one of the first homesteader’s in the Finley
Point area.
As Alyce started having children, she moved between Montana, Idaho and Alaska. She is remembered
for her volunteer work at the Moose Lodge, working as a Women’s advocate, being a foster parent,
owning a ceramic business where she poured and cleaned molds, as well as taught painting classes. She
also owned a small business making Victorian Christmas statues and figurines.
Alyce had a great passion for genealogy and learning about history. She enjoyed painting and making
crafts. Particularly painting landscapes on canvases and on Christmas stockings. In her middle years, she
loved exploring Alaska, camping, fishing, boating and looking for shells on the beach. In her later years
she would often spend hours a day gardening, smoking, drinking coffee, reading books and socializing
with family and friends.
On January 20th, 2019 Alyce fell ill with pneumonia and later had to have intestinal surgery at Kootenai
Hospital, she was then transferred to North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital and lastly transferred to
Lacrosse Health & Rehabilitation Center, where she stayed the last six months of her life. While there,
she met and made many new friends.
On October 4 th the family held an intimate viewing for Alyce at Bell Tower Funeral Home, where she was
subsequently cremated. The staff of Bell Tower went above and beyond in taking final care of Alyce and
in showing warmth to her loved ones.
Alyce was very charismatic, humorous and often livened up the room with her colorful personality. She
created friendships and bonds everywhere she went, with anyone from family members, in-laws,
friends, neighbors, Doctors, Nurses, Nursing assistants, to other patients she lived with in her last couple
months of life.
She will be dearly missed and is now reunited in heaven with her late, beloved friends, family and her
daughter Sarah Redman, who passed as an infant.
