Mr. Austin Edward Mullen of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, passed away on January 7, 2020 at the age of 86. Austin was born to parents Austin and Eleanor Mullen on March 1, 1933 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was born two days before the National Banking Crisis that started on March 3, 1933 which required him to remain in the hospital for two weeks before being released to his parents because payments could not be processed during this time. He grew up as the only child and attended the Wyoming Seminar Prep School before attending Lehigh University. Austin was also in the Navy for 8 years and achieved the rank of Lieutenant JG as a member of Heavy Attack Squadron 4 Detachment Charlie. He began his career working in the Financial District in San Francisco working at Equitable Insurance before moving into Real Estate Finance with Western Mortgage followed by his longer career as a Real Estate Appraiser and Consultant. In 1965 he married Maria Rosi Mullen, who immigrated from Austria on June 9, 1964. They both met in San Francisco in late July of that year and started their life together in Sausalito. They lived with their children in family homes in Lake Tahoe, CA and Carmel, CA until moving to Coeur d’ Alene, ID for retirement. Austin is survived by his wife Maria and five children Sean, Sheila, Brian, Christine and Stephanie and his five grandchildren Elena, Melissa, Amanda, Austin and Elliana. Donations can be given to my father’s favorite charity Children’s International at www.children.org or call 800-888-3089 or e-mail at children@children.org
