Larry Floyd Hoven, age 65, of Mullan, Idaho was born on November 22, 1954 in Longview, Washington to Herman Floyd & Virginia Elaine (Ellison) Hoven. He passed away at Kootenai Health on March 19, 2020. Larry moved to Mullan as a small child and made the town his life long home. He graduated from Mullan High School and attended college in Montana. Larry married Charlotte Cunningham on May 2, 1984 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Larry was a committed family man and a devoted father. He encouraged and supported his children in all that they chose to do. He never missed a single sporting event or school performance throughout all the years of their educations. Larry was especially fond of youth sports. He coached not only his own children but many others in both YBL and Little League. He was a true Mullan Tiger serving many seasons coaching the Jr. High Boy’s Basketball team followed by the JV Boy’s Basketball team and assistant coach of the High School Football team. Larry was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled mechanic. He spent his leisure time hunting, fishing and Jeeping, and he enjoyed countless evening and weekend hours working in his garage. Larry spent many years of his life involved in the Mullan community. He was a long time member of the Mullan Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT and he also proudly served as a fire chief. He was also a member of the Mullan City Council. Larry made his career in the mining industry, working many years at Sunshine Mine and then Essential Metals Corporation before his retirement. Larry is survived by his wife Charlotte Hoven of the family home in Mullan; one son and daughter-in-law Noah and Lisa Hoven and one cherished grandson Gunner John Hoven of Osburn; one daughter Staci Jean Hoven of Coeur d’Alene; mother-in-law Doris Cunningham of Worley; sister-in-law Candie Hoven of Mullan; niece Tiffinay Walker and her children Nyah, Haggen, Sloan and Nika of Hayden; niece Stephaine Hoven and her daughter Leah of Wallace; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and Scott Satterfield and their children Shae and McKenna of Anchorage, Alaska; nephews Jim Taylor and Jack Taylor of Mullan; and one sister Elaine Molman of Susanville, California. He is preceded in death by his parents, his dear brother Roger, and his sister Shirley. At Larry’s request cremation will take place and no service will be held. The family suggests memorials be made to the MVFD.
