Obituary of Dorothy Allen
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy LaVonne Allen of Post Falls, Idaho, passed peacefully at home Friday, August 28th at the age of 92.
Born February 22, 1928 in Spokane, Washington, she spent her early years in Pullman, Washington before her family moved to Genesee, Idaho at the age of seven. Dorothy continued through high school in Genesee, where she lettered in both cheerleading and basketball.
She met her future husband while waitressing at a local restaurant. It was love at first sight. After a short courtship, Dorothy and Robert (Bob) O. Allen eloped in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on November 18th, 1946. They went on to have one daughter, Barbara Lee, and three sons, Randy Dale, Marty I, and Stacy Joe.
In their early years of marriage, they moved around Idaho and Washington while Bob worked construction jobs. Eventually, they settled in Post Falls where they continued to raise their four children. They remained there for the entirety of their 50 year marriage.
Dorothy and Bob were charter members of the VFW, #3606 in Post Falls. They enjoyed bowling, fishing for Kokanee in their white and red boat “Little Love” on Garfield Bay, where they had a vacation home. Dorothy was kind, feisty, and witty— always catching her family and
friends off guard with sly little zingers. She loved the Mariners, Seahawks, and watching Gonzaga basketball. She was a master at canning, making the best sweet pickles, relish, and pickled beets around. Seriously, ask any member of her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Francis Lee, her brother Dick Lee, her husband Robert Allen, and her daughter Barbara Allen.
She is survived by her two brothers Don, and Bud; her children Randy (Ann), Marty (Patty) and Stacy; four grandchildren Nettie, Jennie, Lindsey, and Sean; five great grandchildren; Brian, Keegan, Jordan, Brent, and Megan; and six (almost seven!) great, great grandchildren
