Obituary of Nora Lanning
Please share a memory of Nora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On September 4, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Myasthenia Gravis, Nora I. Lanning took the hand of an angel and left this earth on her 53rd wedding anniversary. Nora was born October 20, 1926 in Elko, Nevada, to Emma and Marshall Hess. After her father was killed in an auto accident her mother married Lewis Bellinger who loved and raised Emma's children as though they were his own. Growing up in the Lamoille Valley, she graduated high school, married and had three sons. In the early 50s Nora moved to Helena, Montana where she later divorced. On September 4, 1959, Nora married the man of her dreams, Tom Lanning.
Nora worked several jobs in the Helena area and during the 60s was chosen Woman of the Year by the American Business Women's Association. Being an adventurous woman, she enjoyed golfing, hunting, snowmobiling and para-sailing into her late 70s. She spent many hours with the grandchildren introducing them to summer and winter adventures. The only grass she allowed to grow under her feet was in her beautiful yard where she nurtured gorgeous flowers and wonderful gardens.
In 1992 Tom and Nora left Helena and moved to Post Falls, Idaho where they made new friends.
Nora was greeted at Heaven's door by her parents, her son, Gary Scott, and siblings Bob Hess, Mary Mawson and Delores Henderson. She is survived by her husband Tom, children Jerry Scott(Judy), Norm Scott(Darlene), Diane Lanning, Tom Lanning(Deb), Mary Ann Ranger(Jeff), daughter-in-law Ronda Scott, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nora also leaves behind special friends Lorraine Bowman and caregiver Dusty Boggs.
The family suggests memorial donations to Camp-Make-A-Dream, Gold Creek, MT.
A celebration of Nora's life will be held at noon, Sunday, September 16th at the Garden Plaza, 545 Garden Plaza Ct, Post Falls, Idaho.
