Merlene Kay Poirier (Curtis, Roth) 74 It is with deep sadness that the family of Merlene Kay Poirier announce her passing on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Merlene was born to Merlin & Katherine Murphy on December 20, 1946 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After the tragic death of her parents around the age of 3, Merlene was adopted by her aunt & uncle Marian & Louis Curtis. She spent her youth in Yuma, AZ, Sandy, OR and eventually settled and graduated high school in Ephrata, WA. There she met and married Marvin E. Roth. Together they had two sons, Charles & John. Marvin & Merlene eventually moved their family to the greater Seattle area around 1974 where they resided together until they divorced in 1984. Merlene stayed in the area with her two sons until moving to Colorado in the early ‘90s. Merlene remarried and lived in the Manitou Springs, Saguache & Crestone areas of CO until 2003. She then relocated to Priest River, ID to be closer to her family. Merlene loved her home along the beautiful Pend Oreille river with her dogs Laddie & Precious. Merlene was a free spirit, dedicating her life to the service of others through prayer & counseling in the communities that she resided and was often known to break out in song & dance. Merlene appreciated and valued food, art, clothing and crafts from many cultures, as well as reading all kinds of books, knitting, working crossword puzzles, and enjoying singing and dancing programs on TV. Merlene is survived by her son John, grandchildren Matthew, Callie & Ben. She will be sorely missed by her family & friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on a date later to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Merlene’s memory to Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W Prairie Ave, Coeur D’ Alene, ID 83815.
