Obituary of Enoch Amos Hunter

Enoch “Amos” Hunter, 91, went to be with His Lord and Savior on May 3, 2021 in Post Falls, Idaho. Enoch was born on March 6, 1930 in Manhattan, Kansas to Ralph Hunter, Sr and Agnes Mildred Hunter (Saunders). He spent his childhood with family in both Kansas and Colorado after his mother died when he was 5. He graduated from Arriba High School in CO, where he was a star basketball player. He “grew up like a weed” he would say and enlisted into the United States Air Force serving in Okinawa as a Radio Mechanic in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the service and began working at Cannery Sales grocery store in the greater Oakland area of CA where he would eventually meet Hazel Bispo and begin dating her daughter, Sondra Centers. They would marry and have 4 children, living as a family in Pleasant Hill, CA until they eventually divorced. Enoch worked in civil engineering at Mare Island in Vallejo, CA. He retired early in life, eventually making his home in Nampa, ID where he enjoyed being outdoors, tending daily to his horses, dogs and endless home projects. He loved a long road trip in one of his many trucks with a few boxes of cookies by his side, traveling often back to CA to visit family and staying for weeks on end with Sondra whom he cherished. He was eager to get back to CA to visit her and “to make her coffee and give her a kiss”. As Enoch got older and could no longer drive, he dearly missed that he could no longer ‘pull up’ in her driveway, surprise his family with the roar of his truck and hear the shout of “Grandpa’s here”! Enoch was a great man who loved God and his family. He was a burden bearer, true to his name's sake. He would help anyone at any time, no questions asked, never ever complained and would outwork those he was helping. He would not only listen to one’s dreams, but help dream them as well. He was remarkably wise - one could not back him into a corner he could not get out of. He was very intelligent and encouraged education for all his children. He could do anything and what he built would last. He was always thankful, always joyful, and “never had a bad day.” He was humble, loving, and full of life. He warmed quickly to strangers and had a witty sense of humor and incredibly never held a grudge. He loved the country he served and would bust out singing patriotic songs until his eyes would be filled with tears. He loved his Lord and Savior and he was not afraid to say so. Enoch Hunter is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Sondra Hunter; children Dawn Hunter, Gala Hunter, Daniel Hunter - all of CA. and Nancy Hunter of ID.; twin granddaughters Stephanie and Jillian Zarifis of CA.; Matthew Hardwick and Amos Hunter of ID.; great grandchildren Jadason Hardwick, Isis Hardwick, Patience Hardwick of UT.; and a soon to be born great granddaughter in CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ralph Hunter, Jr of SC and sister Martha Lucretia Hadley of TX. Enoch will be laid to rest on May 21, 2021 at the Veterans Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
