Alberta Mae “Bertie” Kiefer
May 4th, 1939 – June 28th, 2021
Alberta Mae “Bertie” Kiefer, 82, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2021.
Bertie was born in Molalla, Oregon to D. Mae Tapp and grew up in the Oregon City area. She met and married John Mitchell in 1957 and they settled in Sand Hollow, Idaho. Together they had four children Berthamae, Judy, Patti, and Richard. After divorcing in 1971, Bertie later remarried and gave birth to a daughter, Tina.
Bertie enjoyed serving others by working in the home health industry. In her spare time, Bertie enjoyed dancing, crafting, cooking, and gardening.
In the early 1980s Bertie relocated to northern Idaho, and in 1992 married Howard Kiefer. She and Howard loved to entertain friends & family in their home, travel to Arizona, and spend time outdoors. They lived in the Rathdrum area until Howard’s death in 2018.
Bertie is proceeded in death by her husband Howard Kiefer, son Richard Mitchell, her mother, and a sister. Bertie is survived by her four daughters, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Kootenai Health, Lifecare Center in Sandpoint, and Kindred Hospice for the attention to Bertie’s care during the last year. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to her care givers, including Tosha Watkins and son-in-law Lonnie Hedge.
