Obituary of Edward Stanley Jaskulski

Beloved father, grandfather and friend, Edward “Ed” Stanley Jaskulski, 91, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, peacefully passed away on July 9, 2021. Ed was born on June 16, 1930; the proud son of Stanislaus and Sophie (Witczak) Jaskulski. Ed was born in East Chicago, Indiana but grew up in Hammond, Indiana. He attended Hammond Tech High School as an adolescent and joined the United States Air Force in October of 1951. Ed was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas but maintained his residence in Henderson Nevada during his stay in the US. Ed was also stationed in Tokyo, Japan during his time in the service. His specialty in the military was as a Medical Service Technician which earned him a National Defense Service Medal as well as several other medals. He officially left the service in March of 1960. Ed then became a chemical operator at Stauffer Chemical in Henderson, Nevada from 1960-1991. After retiring in 1991, he remained in Henderson but traveled around the country in his motorhome 4-6 months out of the year. After eight adventurous years of traveling, he found what he called “his piece of Heaven” in the small town of Dolores, Colorado, residing there for the next 20 years of his life. In 2019, he moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to be close to his daughter, Debbie. Ed was a man of many interests, although he was mainly considered an avid golfer and even spent time as an Assistant Pro in Indiana. Ed committed himself to many hours practicing hitting balls and golfed 3 times a week for many years. His preferred Tee time was in the summer but pretty much golfed year-round. Ed’s other interests included woodworking as well. He had a knack for design and would design his own lamps from pieces of found driftwood during his travels. Ed also loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed camping with them every opportunity that he got. His favorite camping spot was in Grayland, Washington, right on the beach. He became quite the kite flyer and would fly kites with his grandsons on the beach. So many memories were shared looking for sand dollars on early morning walks with grandsons during low tide. His time with his grandsons were special. Ed was always up for shooting baskets, going on long bike rides, hiking the mountain behind his home in Dolores, CO, and of course, he was always up for a few rounds of golf. Ed stayed busy and active and even walked 4 miles as his daily routine for many years. Ed is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Frank) Susedik of St. Maries, Idaho; and his wonderful grandsons: Tommy (Heather Sears) Basenberg of Post Falls, Idaho and Doug (Bridget Spalding) Basenberg of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Lenora (Cotner) Jaskulski who passed away on January 1, 1991; his companion of 25 years, Colleen Bartlett who passed away in 2015, as well as his brother, Anthony Jaskulski.
