Obituary of Andrew Ross Hayes

Andrew Ross Hayes, age 49, died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, very shortly after receiving the Last Rites of the Roman Catholic Church. He suffered from many years of Huntington’s Disease, a terminal degenerative brain disease. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Hayes and is survived by his mother, Patricia Carro. He had numerous aunts and uncles and cousins whom he loved very much. He was born in Santa Rosa, California. He had moved quite a bit as a child due to his father’s work and attended several different schools. He attended high school and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in St. Mary’s, Kansas. He did various farming jobs and construction jobs in central California for several years. He lived in New Mexico for over eight years in the service of his church at a Benedictine Monastery. During these years he was a valuable worker in various jobs and a vegetarian cook and was able to travel to Argentina as well as Italy and Portugal. At the age of 30, he joined the armed services after 9-11 and served four and half years in the US Army as a specialist in the Postal Unit out of Ft. Lewis, Washington. He completed a successful tour in Iraq at the height of the war in 2003. He enjoyed many years of running various races including many marathons and ultra-marathons across the United States. He also enjoyed the hobby as a ham radio operator achieving the general class license. Andy always had a “can do” positive attitude, a good sense of humor, and a sparkle in his brown eyes. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls, Idaho on September 9, 2021 at 9:45 am beginning with Rosary and Visitation followed with Mass at 10:30. The burial will take place afterwards at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls and a reception to follow at the church.
