My Uncle Jerry will always be the guy you want on your team, in your tribe, or at your side. He's tough as hell and observant; seeing what most people are too busy with themselves to notice and using it to his advantage... or often to humble those riding a little too high. ;) Most of the time, I saw him reap the benefits of these strengths when he was rippin' jokes or "some dumbass a new one." I'm sure you can imagine the situations we saw ourselves in when we had Jer at our side. They are proud, favorite memories of mine.
I'll always appreciate how he made me feel seen. I was the first kid born into my entire extended family... A girl. He and I are so different but we pushed each other and always found common ground. I'll miss his quips and jabs most, he always had something to say to keep the banter going, ever sarcastic and firey. I love that he'd tell ya how he saw it and usually, he had a point. This has become part of my language and behavior too.
I'm proud of my cousins: Jerry's girls, and Vicki. I know they make him so proud in everything they face, every day. I am grateful for the closeness I feel for this family and the connection that Jerry drove in us all. I'm still coming to terms with grief but I know I am better for having Jerry in my life. I will miss him greatly.
