Obituary of Tom Dean Wynia

Tom Dean Wynia, also known affectionately as "Spanish Tom" to some for his love of the Spanish language, and even just "Tommy" to others, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 in Post Falls, Idaho at the age of 87. Tom was born in Spokane, Washington on January 9, 1935, to Jess and Lura Wynia. Tom graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane, enlisted in the US National Guard, and later enlisted in the US Air Force in 1956. Tom married Irene Gallegos in 1960. Tom fathered two children and worked as a Real Estate Broker to support his family all the way up until his official retirement at the age of 80 in 2015. Tom enjoyed golf, all forms of gambling, learning Spanish, and hearing his grandson's long stories about school and his online video games. Making that earth-shattering hole-in-one, not once, but twice, was Tom’s proudest moment. Tom received numerous awards throughout his life for his service in the US Air Force, for his Real Estate sales accomplishments, for service in several business associations, and for competing in numerous golf tournaments. Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, by his brother Lanny Wynia, and by his own beloved son Michael Anthony Wynia in 1977. Tom is survived by his wife Irene Wynia, his sister Lynda Wynia, his brother Terry Wynia, his daughter Karen Harker, his son-in-law David Harker, and his grandson Shepherd Harker. Tom's family wishes to extend their gratitude to American Legion Post 143 in Post Falls. Tom loved visiting the Legion on a weekly basis, and he recommended membership to all veterans everywhere he went. Memorial services for Tom will be held at The American Legion Post 143 on Saturday, February 19th, 2022. This celebration of life will begin at 2pm. The address is 1138 East Poleline Avenue in Post Falls, Idaho. Tom's ashes will be interred at Marshall Cemetery in Cheney, Washington later in the Spring.
