Please share a memory of Roger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary Roger Allen Rankin Roger “Rocky” Allen Rankin was born on April 24, 1944 in Washington D.C. His parents were Willard T. and Roberta M. Rankin of Pennsylvania and Indiana respectively. Roger attended Anacostia High School where he was selected as the Outstanding Lineman on the football team. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years to include a tour in Udorn, Thailand during the Vietnam War. Two of his proudest moments were when he marched in President John F. Kennedy’s funeral procession to Arlington National Cemetery and when Pentagon officials selected him to be the model for a major change in the Air Force uniform in 1971. After his service, Roger attended University of Southern Mississippi where he majored in business, graduating in 1969. Roger ran his own private and successful college apparel business until he retired in 2018. He owned a beautiful home overlooking Lake Coeur D’Alene in Idaho not far from his sister Carole. They would often visit each other by boat. Roger loved the laid-back lake lifestyle and enjoyed cruising over to the nearby town of Harrison to meet family and friends. His yard was often visited by a local family of deer, who enjoyed eating fruit from his two apple trees. Roger passed away at home on May 12, 2022. Roger is survived by his sister Carole Hall (Monte) of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, sister Sharon Thomas (Charles) of Solomon’s Island, Maryland and Richard “Dick” Rankin (Cynthia) of Honolulu, Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of the Non-Profits that cares for wounded warriors and their families. Roger cared a great deal about our Wounded Warriors and Families. He was one of the largest individual donors to Wounded Warrior Ohana (wwohana.org) and he also donated to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.ORG).
