A lot of people did not know how shy my mother was.I think they thought she just kept to herself.But I remember this one time when we went downtown Spokane together shopping etc. Just her and me.It was nice because my mother was always so busy with us kids and the house and her jobs.But my mother was extremely nervous this one day and come to find out she was going to go in for a job interview.She was so within herself,I am sure she wasn't hearing a word I was saying to her about where to met up afterwards.But repeating it twenty times must have gotten through.She got the job and we got back together.

I saw my oldest daughter,Lena cleaning the refrigerator and hoping to take the contents and make a meal of it.Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.When my mother did clean out the refrigerator there were all kinds of goodies.How old some of it was who knows.But she would get a big pot and slice and dice and presto soup.Believe it or not it was the best tasting soup I ever had.What an amazing woman.

I always loved their ability to laugh. I remember one time when Larry said that whenever Eleanor fried eggs over easy, if she broke one she'd say: "Oh, Larry, I broke your egg!" He said: "How does she know it was my egg?" Eleanor just laughed. I can still picture their facial expressions as he described that. Go in peace, Eleanor.

I thank my mom for showing us how important politics and voting are. She was very much involved in both. She volunteered and also worked at the voting polls. She would take some of us kids to the Election office downtown when she helped out. I remember going to the airport to greet Barry Goldwater even though I didn't know who he was back then. She showed us kids how important it was to stayed tuned into America.

Grandma, you were always such a beautiful person. Inside and out. I'm so thankful for the long life you lived. I wish you were still with us but I understand that your legacy will continue to live on in the children, grandchildren, etc you leave behind. Mom often said "I don't know why all you kids always wanted to live out in the country! You didn't get that from me!" She always thought us kids lived in the middle of nowhere. But she always remarked on the "Beautiful Mountains" around where I lived. A few times I mentioned that I would like to live on the Palouse. She would say, "how can you leave these Beautiful Mountains."

I could write a number of short stories about mom's driving. These are my favorite. We hated taking mom's car away, but there were a number of incidences where we thought that it was best. It was hard to do because she loved driving. There was the time Chip had to go use a floor jack to lift the back of her car clear of the parking garage. Mom was trying to park the car in it and got the car stuck on the edge of the door. The whole side of her car was scratched up. Then there was the time where she got lost on the way to my house in Idaho. (Actually this happened twice.) What happened this time was mom called me from Newman Lake. (about 8 miles from my house) She was lost and using some mans cell phone. I told her to drive east from there to the gas station and stay put. Knowing my mom I knew that would not happen, so I rushed down to the station 6 miles away. I saw her driving east towards my house 1 mile past the station. I made a U-turn on the highway and followed her. Mom turned right in front of a Semi-truck and drove full speed up a road dust flying. That was still not the road to our house. I couldn't even keep up with her. It was a dead end, so I parked my car and waited till she came back down. I stood in the road with crossed arms, like I was the mom. I never let her drive by herself to my house again.

Mom would seldom yell at us, so her vocal chords were our of pratice. She would attempt to yell at Susan and I in the mornings while we slept upstairs to wake us up for school. She would be down at the bottom of the stairs and try to yell. What came out though was a screeching howl. "Su, Su,Susan and Lynne! Wake up! Its time to get up!" I would jump out of bed the minute I heard those sounds for fear of hearing it again! It was one of the worst sounds in the world! It was like fingernails on a chaldboard!

I forgot to mention in my Overall story about the clean underwear. Mom said at least one million times to me, "Always wear clean underwear, you never know when you might be in a car accident!" I always thought that it would be the worst thing in the world to be caught with dirty underwear if I was in an accident, not the accident itself!!

Mom was a child of the Depression. She saved everthing and never wasted anything. She ingrained that in her children. I feel quilty if I throw anything away to this day. Many of us Baby Boomers Have heard the phrase,"Clean your plate, there are starving children in china!" I think I heared that one a million times!

Mom was a snappy dresser. She always coordinated her clothes with her purse and shoes. She always dressed nice when she went out anywhere. If any of us kids were leaving the house to go somewhere and were not dressed properly, she would say "your not going out in that are you?" "I'am sure that many people have heard that from there mothers." Overalls were always one of my favorite things to were. If mom was around she would say "women do not wear overalls do they?" She never failed to mention that,so sometimes I would wear them on purpose when I knew I would see her.

I remember when we lived on gless street in the Shadle area. Mom started working swing shift at ONB Bank downtown. Mom and dad had only one car so she would have to catch a bus a few blocks away every weekday. I was about six years old and Susan was about eight.We would walk with mom everday through the vacant lot across the alley to the corner of the block. There was a very busy street right there, so thats the furthest mom would let us walk with her. Sue and I would stay at the corner while mom walked down a fews blocks. We would wave to her everytime she turned around and she would wave back, until she was out of sight. Sometimes we would cry. (well most of the time actually)

I miss mom so much. My life has been so involved with hers these past fell years.It's hard to realize that she won't be there to go places with, or to care for her. It hurts so much. I love you mom. I will think of you every day and miss you so very much.
