Obituary of Melvin Carman

Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Melvin A. Carman, 92, of Post Falls, Idaho died at Garden Plaza on October 27, 2013. He was born in Molson, Okanogan, WA, February 28, 1921 to Chancey and Lizzie (Mundt) Carman. Melvin is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Engebretsen, Marilyn Smith, Judy (Joe) Smith, Linda (Bill) Rabey; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Billie (his beloved), and Ruby; brother Dewey, and sister Roberta. He attended and graduated from Jenkins High School in 1938 - after skipping the eighth grade - in Chewelah, Washington. Melvin met Billie Morgan and they were married in April of 1942. He later joined the United States Army in September of the same year, serving in WWII. They lived in Otis Orchards - Canfield Gulch - on a little farm of 80 acres. He had a love for music and played with friends in music bands throughout his lifetime. For one of his hobbies, he corresponded and shared taped music with people who played their own music. Melvin was a hard worker, enjoyed vacations with his family, and relished life with that special smile we all loved. Retiring from Kaiser after 30 years, Billie and Melvin had a desire to become snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona. Traveling in a camper, they upgraded to a trailer, then a motor home and eventually bought a house. His last home for 3 good years was at Garden Plaza in Post Falls. The staff loved him as he loved the staff. Thanks to the staff of Hopsice of North Idaho who were instrumental in providing comfort. Melvin was a member of the United Church of God in Spokane, WA. He will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Melvin's Life is pending for a later date.
