I met Doug at Wilder Nursery School in Hingham, later attended Derby Academy with him and after that Harvard College, class of 1955. I knew all of his early family: his two brothers, Sam and George(who used to pick on him); his beautiful mother, who died much too early from a bicycle accident, and his father, a naval officer in World War II, who served as Governor of Saipan in the Pacific. and who gave a memorable speech at Derby about his military service.
Doug was a consummate and sensitive citizen to his Massachusetts communities. I am sure his infectious laugh will be appreciated in heaven.

Douglas was definitely one of the good ones: a man of great intelligence, wit, and sensitivity. Although my time with him was short, he will forever have a place in my heart. To those he left behind may you find peace. All my love to you.

Doug was always happy, always had a good laugh for everyone. He was an active participant in our men's group at UUFES. I remember how excited he was when we went to see the model boat races and Doug got to pilot one of the model boats. He liked it so much, he later built one of the models. I will miss Doug very much.
