Remembering Deb's Dad. . . by Julie Barnicle I met Debbie's father, Tom years ago. Have you ever heard the phrase 'Larger than Life'? Well, that describes him perfectly. He was always the life of the party. He had that rare combination of wit and intelligence. His smile could light up an entire city block in the middle of a black out! This is why everyone seemed to gravitate towards him. After meeting him, it became immediately clear where Deb gets her charm and intelligence. From where I am standing, that is one of things he should be most proud of. Debbie is a wonderful, generous and compassionate friend and I adore her. My heart goes out to Debbie and her entire family.

Tom never failed to amaze me with his keen intelligence and quick wit not to mention his ready smile and good looks. He loved to have real conversations and consequently we discovered over the years that we shared many experiences. One was that we both had owned Karman Ghias-his white and mine- red and that we both remembered driving them on the "old" Lewiston hill. His first time was "white knuckle" on the way to his teaching job at the U of ID. He was surprised to learn that I had loved racing up & down the hill. True to form, Tom found a U Tube about the "old" hill! He could find anything at the drop of a hat! Tom LOVED life, the beauty of nature, the adventure, music - especially the 1930's & 40"s, border collies, current events/politics, PEOPLE in general, FRIENDS in particular and most of all, HIS FAMILY. He told me once that he had led a "charmed life." I believe it, my friend.

The happiest days of my life were when Tommy found me after 47 years on July 4, 2010, after not even hearing from each other for 47 years. He was the most romantic, kind, warm, sincere, loving, person I have ever had an opportunity to meet. He could make me laugh at the drop of a hat. I walked around for a month with a smile on my face to the degree that people would ask what was the matter with me. I will never forget the time the good Lord gave us together. I was so sure we were predestined to be together. My most sincere sympathy to his entire family. I miss him too.

Dear Tom's Family, May God bless you in your time of need. I have the greatest memories of Tom. He had just brought me a large bag of chocolates and now they will be forever bitter sweet. He could make me laugh, he and his designer jeans :-) Tom was to be my date this summer we were going to do so many things and now we will have to wait until we meet again. CS Lewis wrote that death is only the final stage of birth. I have truly lost a great friend and my heart is saddened that we didn't have more time. Tom touched so many people, some with their permission, some without :-) To Tom's family may God Bless You and keep you in his sight. Plato once said "The soul of man is immortal and imperishable" Tom will never truly be gone, never to far from our hearts. Love Always Babette

I’m going to miss Grandpa, the Christmas’s we spent together will be ones cherished forever. You were always the funniest person in the room, and I know where I get my sense of humor from. I will always remember the talks you and my Mom had for hours on your visits; I know they meant more than the world to her. I will never forget the times that we had together, and I know you love me. I remember driving somewhere with Tom, and his daughter Debbie. I was 23 years old, and we were all crammed into my pick up truck. I had a awesome stereo and blasting Van Halen's "Panama". We were singing at the top of our lungs! Tom was always was the life of the party. He was a magnet at any gathering. People gravitated towards his wit and charm. Debbie became my wife. The day I married her, and the day she gave me a son, were the happiest two days of my life. There are no words to express my gratitude towards you for giving me the foundation of my life. You will always live on in your kids, and Grandkids. I remember you used to ask me," Will you be cocktailing today Mr. Skinner". Yes I will Tom...And I will think of you! You will be missed, but never forgotten. Scott

My dad loved quotes! His two favorite people he quoted most often were Winston Churchill and Mark Twain. I remember one in particular that he repeated almost every time when I was with him was by Mark Twain who said "I know everyone has to die but I thought in my case God would make an exception". So do I! Thanks for giving so many funny things to remember that made me laugh so hard!!! You are so loved.

I am truly upset at the loss of my caring, responsible, educated, and very funny father-in-law. First of all, I want to say thanks to Tom for the many fun times we were able to experience, from golfing, playing backgammon, playing chess, telling tall tales and joking with one another. He was very confident and could make a friend in a matter of minutes. He was very quick-witted and always had a way with words that made me feel a sense of self worth. He gave me one of the most profound words of advice that I now live by, “Respond, Don’t React. This has helped me become a much better person! I promise to take care of your little girl FOREVER. I will give her the same respect that you always gave her. I look up to him for that. Every time we would ask Tom to come to see an activity that one of our kids was doing, he would make sure that he was there. I Love You Tom and will see you in Heaven! Say Hello to my mom. :-)

My prayers go out to Tom's family and friends. I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Tom ten years ago in a online backgammon site. He took pity on this novice and began teaching me. Being the world class player he was, I tested his patience at times, but he said my ability to lose constantly impressed him, so he continued until I was somewhat of a worthy opponent. Our friendship grew along with my skills. I feel privileged to have shared a small part of his life. His exuberance for life, excitement and dedication to his family, friends or any new project was to be admired. Nite, tomin8tor, love Barbinator

My heart is heavy and thoughts and prayers with Tom's family and friends. His presence on this earth will be greatly missed. I met Tom over 30 years ago at Yolanda's piano bar and my house became his second home until he moved from the Bay Area. My young sons nicknamed him "Tommy Guererro" because one year at Christmas, when I could not afford presents, he bought them their skateboards and accessories and it was one of the best Christmas mornings they ever had. I have fond memories of my mom and Tom playing cribbage. Her IQ equaled Tom's and so the banter was always entertaining! I imagine him now, smiling that great smile, sitting at the piano listening to Bobby play 42nd Street while Kenny belts it out. A stimulating conversation with Ayn Rand later? Good-bye, Tom. I hope heaven is all you imagined it to be!

I was very saddened to hear of Tom's passing quietly in his sleep and wish to express my sympathy to his family and friends. I met Tom years ago at the home of our mutual friend Sue Barrows in the San Francisco Bay Area and was taken with his intelligence, witty humor, and dashing good looks. Years later, on Super Bowl Sunday 1993, my residence caught fire. Battling breast cancer at the time, I was forced to vacate and a group of friends volunteered to move my belongs into storage. Tom Moore was one of those who volunteered and I was particularly stuck by his kindness because I had not seen him in years and he had back problems at the time. My our Lord hold him forever and bless him for his goodness. Sincerely, Denise Demello

It may only be family folklore, but on a lighter note-- I've been told our Mom was approached on the N.Y. subway by one of Tom's teachers who asked how Tommy was recovering and when he might be expected to return to school after a lengthy absense. Needless to say,if you knew Tom, he wasn't sick. He was just improving his hooky playing record. To say that I will miss him is surely an understatement. He was a delightful little brother. And, yes, I did beat him at bachgammon a few times--not many--just a few. I love you Tom.

Carrie, Thank you for letting me know about your dad. He was a very dear friend of my mom and dad's(Marylynde and Kenny Lee). When I was growing up your dad played a huge role in my life. I always referred to him as "Unc" because he was like that awesome uncle everyone wants to have. As a teenager I LOVED his Karman Ghia and I remember his bumper sticker said: My karma just ran over your dogma. He always listened to me, and I felt like he understood me when my parents did not. He was a great friend to me and I was lucky enough to reconnect with him a couple years ago. I am happy that you had a wonderful day with him and he was laughing. That is a true blessing. Your dad will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you, and I'm sending prayers for healing to you and your family.
