My deepest condolences to the Tofflemire family, and to everyone he touched in his life. Joe was a wonderful person, and I will treasure the time I got to spend with him, albeit short. I was so happy to find him on FB, and to be able to reconnect so recently. Gone too soon. May you rest in peace.

To the Tofflemire Family: We are deeply sorry for your loss. I remember when my sister, Alison Unden, told us about her reconnection to "Joey" in California back around 1998. She was so excited and really loved him. Then in 2004 we found out she had cancer. She battled the disease for 19 months passing away on July 30, 2005. It was at her rosary and viewing in Post Falls that this absolutely massive amazing beautiful arrangement of deep red roses arrived. The bouquet was 50 roses in number and everyone present at her viewing wanted to know who they were from. We read the most beautiful inscription to Alison on the attached card, and then looked at the signature....it said, "Love Joey". Then at the Church before the funeral Mass, another massive amazing beautiful arrangement of deep red roses arrived. This bouquet was also 50 roses in number. Everyone present for Alison's funeral wanted to know who they were from. Again, after reading the most touching inscription to Alison, it was signed, "Love, Joey." My mom also received a beautiful letter from Joey expressing how very much he missed Alison and how very deeply he loved her. Mom preserved both bouquets of roses from Joey and to this day still has them. May Jesus and The Blessed Mother keep Joey safe in their arms and induct him into the blessedness and peace of Heaven. Joey is in our prayers, and may he and Alison reunite their souls for all eternity.

In the early 2000's my family and I traveled to Seattle to see family. We were at a small town outside the city and my son Stevie Jr wanted a drink. We entered a CVS store to get drinks for me, my wife, my 2 kids and my brother-in-law. I will never forget what happens next. I turn my head and their is Joe. We have not seen each other for a while and we shared the best hug! My family was wondering what the heck was going on. To sum it up, Joe and I told stories to my family about our awesome friendship at the U of A. Not only were we teammates but we had some classes together. And of course those were always my favorite classes! Joe and I always would make other laugh so hard. Joe, I miss you and love you... Chewy

Foremost, my condolences to Paulie and the Family. I was privileged to be one of Joe's teammates at the University of Arizona. He was larger than Life to me. I've never known someone to work so hard and still keep a smile on his face at the end of the day. It was a home game, and our quarterback kept fumbling the snap. He was pulling back too quickly and not waiting for Joe's snap. This happened about three times, and the quarterback kept blaming Joe saying his pants were too slick or slippery. Ron McBride, our Offensive Line coach, didn't miss a beat. He turned to me and said, "Take your pants off!" He saw the puzzled look on my face and repeated his command a litte louder. So there we were, me taking my football pants off and Joe putting them on over his. An awkward momennt for both of us. He said "Thanks" as he ran back on the field. The quarterback didn't fumble a snap again that night. I don't recall if we won that game or not, but I'll never forget the night Joe wore my football pants. Joe, you left too early. You are and will be dearly missed. Go rest high on that mountain ... rest in Peace.

One day during the winter I drove my little Ford Courier pick-up to Post Falls High School. They had recently plowed the parking lot, and as I drove across the snow berm into the lot my truck got high centered and stuck. Instead of pushing the truck out, Joe, Rollin Putzier and my little brother Mike Valente just lifted the truck in the air up and off the snow berm and sat it back down in the parking lot. I will always remember that wintery day.

I met Joe when he, Michelle and Michael lived in our neighborhood in Issaquah, WA. I'd never had a pro athlete as a neighbor and frankly, didn't know what to expect. They were just regular folks and good neighbors. Joe liked to have fun and I especially recall the effort he, Michelle and Michael went to at Halloween with their extensive costumes. I also recall one 4th of July when Joe went with another neighbor and I to the Tulalip Indian reservation to buy fireworks. Joe brought some of his NFL trading cards and let's just say that Joe left the "res" with an extensive collection of fireworks that led to a memorable celebration for the neighborhood. I appreciate the times shared with Joe and his family and offer my condolences to them all.
