Obituary of Carol June Kurtz

Carol June Kurtz, 92, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho passed away August 6, 2014 at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’ Alene. Carol was born December 24, 1921 in Salina, Kansas to Arthur and Hazel (Preston) Wallace. As a child Carol moved with her family to Portland, Oregon in the mists of the dust bowl. There she attended and graduated from Portland Adventist Academy in 1939. She then went on to Walla Walla College where she studied to be an administrative assistant. While in college she met Arnold Kurtz, and they were later married in College Place, Washington in 1942. They were married 61 years when Arnold passed away in 2003. Arnold was a pastor and together Carol and Arnold pastored in the Pacific North West before moving south first to Tennessee, and later Georgia where they continued their ministry. They also lived and worked in Michigan where Arnold taught seminary and Carol worked as an administrative assistant at Andrews University. They finally retired to College Place, Washington in the early 1990’s. Carol was a member of the Coeur d’ Alene Seventh Day Adventist Church, and the church choir. Carol was also a volunteer at the Walla Walla General Hospital. Her family was very musical and everyone played an instrument. She loved classical and religious music. Carol was a happy person who loved to sing and play games. One of her favorite games was Mexican Train. Carol is survived by three children Jeanne (Lloyd) Munson of Post Falls, Idaho, Janet (William) Van Der Mei of Folsom, California, and Donavan (Janey) Kurtz of Maryland; one sister Ruth Lodahl; two brothers Preston and Gerald Wallace; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Clarence Wallace. A Memorial service will be held Saturday August 23, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at College Place Village Seventh Day Adventist Church, 715 SE 12 St. College Place, Washington 99324.
