Obituary of Oma Fay Hoggatt
Please share a memory of Oma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Oma Fay Bingham Hoggatt, born October 19, 1926 in Dallas, Texas left this mortal life Tuesday, November 4, 2014. She passed peacefully at home with daughter Susan, granddaughters Lindsay and Becky and grandson Dillon nearby.
Oma was the third child born to Joseph Walter Bingham and Mary Elcie Springer. Firstborn in her family was Lawrence (1922 – 1991), then sister Geneva (1924 – 1998). She also had one younger brother Jesse (1929 – 1962).
Oma married Earl Junior Hoggatt October 6, 1946 in Moses Lake, Washington. They met in Moses Lake where Earl was working as a Taxicab Driver and he went into the Telephone Company where Oma was working as a telephone operator. After their marriage, the children born to them are Terry (born 1947) Susan (born 1949) Richard (1952) Russell (1955) Kenneth (1957) and Deanna (1963). Terry married Joyce Money and they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Susan married Steven Nelson and they have 4 children and 14 grandchildren. Richard married Barbara. Russell married Mary and they have 2 sons. Kenneth married Janet and they have 1 daughter and 2 grandsons. Deanna married Brent and they have 6 children and 4 grandchildren.
Earl preceded Oma in death on February 3, 2003 in Seattle, Washington. Oma stayed in Auburn for a time and then moved in with her daughter Susan in Spokane Valley, Washington where she was when she passed away on November 4, 2014. Her son Richard also preceded her in death on January 13, 2010.
With children in the home, Oma finished her LPN and worked in several Convalescence Centers throughout her life. She also cared for patients in their homes.
Oma served faithfully in many church callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A few of the callings were primary teacher, primary president, beehive leader, service missionary and temple ordinance worker.
Oma was a very supportive Mother and Grandmother. She tried to attend as many baby blessings, baptisms, sporting events, graduations, mission farewells and homecomings and other important events. She felt strongly about family history work and worked on this with Deanna.
Oma was able to see much of the world, mostly through visiting her oldest son and family. Terry and Joyce and family lived many places around the world because he taught High School math in International Schools. She visited their family in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, Taipei, Taiwan and Prague, Czech Republic. Oma went on 4 cruises with her family: Mexico, Caribbean, Alaska and Bahamas. While in Mexico she went on a horseback ride! She was 80 years old when she rode that horse. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading books. She was diligent in her prayers and scripture study.
She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments. This is a list of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren:
