I just discovered that Dennis passed when our Christmas card was returned and I'm very sorry my condolences are so late. Dennis and I were students together at Eastern Washington University in the late 1950's. We played together in a country/folk trio for a couple of years. Dennis was the lead guitar player and he was top notch. Dennis and the other trio member, Bernie Carlson, made us all sound pretty good. We played in lots of campus variety shows, and in taverns and dances. I remember the times we played as a high point in my life. All three of us left college and went into the army in about 1962 and lost track of each other. I located Dennis in Post Falls and visited him and Sherry there once. We exchanged Christmas cards, but the distance made it hard to get together again. I hope he knew how important a part he played in my college life. Our trio was really a high point. He was a lot of fun to be around and I'll miss him.

When I first worked for Health and Welfare in 1977 Dennis was the person assigned to train me in Child Protective Services. Later in the early 80's my office was across the hall from him for about 5 years. It was during that time I got to know Dennis well. I always had a great deal of respect for Dennis and his common sense way of handling cases. He was a nice person with a great sense of humor and I remember that whenever a difficult child abuse case came into the office it was assigned to Dennis which was a testament to his professional skill and wisdom. I left Health and Welfare in 1986 and only saw him sporadically after that. He was a great guy and I highly respected him. There are many abused and neglected children who were protected by Dennis's efforts which is a great legacy to have. I'm sure there are many children in the Coeur d'Alene community who would thank him too if they knew what he had done to make their lives better. He was humble and wasn't looking for attention or praise when I worked for him. He just went about his important work of protecting children and working with troubled families calmly and professionally. He was a great guy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I worked with Dennis for close to 25 years and will always remember our friendly debates at break time, his common sense in the middle of bureaucratic rules and his dedication to his career as a social worker. I appreciated his dry sense of humor and dedication to his family.
