Eugene Lee Hummel, 70, of Spirit Lake, Idaho passed away September 23, 2015 at Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho. Eugene was born December 15, 1944 in Elgin, North Dakota to Frederick and Esther (Huber) Hummel.
At the age of 19 Eugene was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he returned to North Dakota where he worked as a farm hand. There he met Shirley Hintz in 1967 and they were later married on April 7, 1969 in Carson North Dakota. They were married 46 years when he passed.
Together Eugene and Shirley raised their two daughters in Mandan, North Dakota were Eugene worked at Sweetheart Bakery and later for the local Parks and Recreation Department. He was also a self-employed Beekeeper. They later moved to North Idaho in 1996 settling in Spirit Lake. There he worked for Watson Security as a security guard until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, Idaho. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife Shirley Hummel of the family home in Spirit Lake, Idaho; two daughters Melanie Hummel of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Melissa (Michael) Spencer of Spirit Lake, Idaho; two grandchildren Tristen Hummel, and Natasha Raye Spencer; one brother Allen (Misti) Hummel of Elgin North Dakota; two sisters Marleen (Otto) Koepplin of Elgin, North Dakota and Joyce (Tim) Leidke of New Leipzig, North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,grandparents, in-laws, and 1 niece.
Upon his request no services will be held.
