I have fond memories of both Gladys and George when they would come to Lydiksen Elementary School's field day, and help begin the day's festivities. Gladys always was interested in the children. You could see her intently watching them, and she seemed to be happy to make the annual appearance at the school bearing her name. My thoughts and prayers are with Marcia and Gladys' family and friends. Jennifer Berrigan, Lydiksen health clerk

I have been doing Gladys's hair for the last 10 years here in Idaho and what a gift to me. It was an honor to do her hair and I'm grateful for her friendship all this time. I love you Gladys and thank you, Chris

Gladys first welcomed me into her home when Marcia invited me, her college chum, to Pleasanton for numerous family dinners. The university was a mere hour’s drive away, so Gladys found us on her doorstep many a Sunday afternoon. Always kind, inclusive, and gracious, Gladys regaled us with her unbelievably good cooking and good humor. And she was always generous about sharing her recipes. Not only was she probably the very best cook in Almador County, I do believe that her Flank steak and rice pilaf still are the center piece of many special occasions to this day. Gladys was very proud of her husband, George, and daughter Marcia. She was fiercely loyal to her family and very particular about doing the right thing, behaving well. Manners and good living were important to her as was her large Irish family and her religious faith. She always “flew straight; I know her “wings are in place even as I write these lines. Gladys was a truly lovely lady, mentally sharp until the very end, (as her defeated pinocle friends will attest) and a woman who enriched all our lives. I feel so fortunate to have known her; I mourn her loss. Lea Given

Hi Marcia, I was just asking your aunt Mary about your mom when I saw her the other day when I cleaned her teeth. Yes, I'm still working one day a week can't quite give it up totally. I have fond memories of Gladys she was always concerned with your happiness above all else. I hope you are well and please know I'm thinking about you. Please say hi to Berle for me. With sympathy Nancy Plum

I really don't have a particular story just my memories of my wonderful Aunt Gal. For as long as I can remember I would always look forward with great anticipation for the family gatherings at Gal and George's, especially Christmas. Walking through the door, being greeted first by George with a big handshake and hug and then by Aunt Gal. Her smile, warmth and kindness, always made me feel special. Even the last visit I made to her in Idaho......I will never forget how happy she was to see me and I her. I am so very happy that I made that visit, it is etched in my memory forever! I will miss my Aunt Gal so very much.
