Zelma Baron Spencer was born in Annis, Idaho to James and Pearl (Campbell) Baron Aug. 3rd, 1929. She was raised as working farm-girl with 3 older sisters. She graduated from Midway High School in 1947 and married Earl Dewain Spencer in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 8th, 1947. They lived in Idaho Falls for 32 years and she was alone for a year with 2 small children while Earl served in the Korean War. (Earl also served in WWII before their marriage). They lost a son, Sherman in a farm accident when he was 10. They raised 5 other children to adulthood. After Earl retired in 1985 they moved to Spokane to be near their family.
Zelma was a passionate quilter having worked in 2 quilt stores and made them for all her grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Family was everything to her. She was very active in her LDS faith and served as a volunteer in the garment center and Spokane Temple. Having grown up in the Depression, she was appreciative of anything that came into her life and was always happy. Zelma was an example of quiet strength and faithful prayers.
Zelma is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Earl Dewain and their son Sherman Earl. She is survived by two sisters, Lola (A.J.) Mcneese , Leta (Tom) Zollman and children Erlene (Donald) Clifton, Annette (Patrick) Carter, Randy (Nellie) Spencer, Richard (Diane) Spencer and Stan (Jill) Spencer as well as 19 grandchildren and 29 Great-Grandchildren. We rejoice in the glorious family reunion she is having right now!
