Obituary of Dennis King Culp Jr.

Dennis King Culp, Jr. was born November 12, 1940 in Wenatchee, Washington and died December 8 th , 2016 in Post Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father, Captain Dennis K. Culp (USN- Ret), his mother, Ethel May Culp, and sister, Judith May Greer. His childhood and career included tours in Guam, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, as well as stateside. He graduated from Lemoore High School in Lemoore, California and went on to graduate with honors in June 1964 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. In addition to his undergraduate degree, he held Masters and Professional Engineering degrees from MIT as well as a Masters in International Relations from the University of Kansas. During his distinguished 26 year military career he rose to the rank of Colonel. He spent two tours as a combat engineer in Vietnam where he was decorated for heroism with five Bronze Stars. At the culmination of his military career he was awarded the Legion of Merit for meritorious service. After his military retirement, Colonel Culp served as Associate Vice President of Facilities at Stanford University, and he finally retired from the City of Renton as the head of the Facilities Department. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of running, sailing, fishing, camping, skiing and generally any activity that brought him to his beloved Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. Dennis will be missed by all who knew him, including his family, friends and classmates. Survivors include his son, Dennis King Culp III of Bothell, WA, daughter Christina May Culp of Scotts Valley, CA, his sister Joan V. Scott of Sagle, Idaho, two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held when the weather is nicer this summer at Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho.
