Alfred Roy Wagner, 94, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away March 20, 2017 at his home. Alfred was born July 3, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Agnes (Podke) Wagner. Al grew up during the depression in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the second oldest of five brothers, and one sister. He was raised on the East side of Cleveland in a tough neighborhood. It is said that the kids got tougher the further down the street you went, and the Wagner’s lived at the end of the block. In October 1939 Al joined the United States Marine Corps, and was sent to Parris Island, South Carolina for training. While on recruiting duty with the Marines in Cleveland, Ohio he met and married Mary Lucy Mackham, and adopted her four small children. The marriage lasted 38 years before the lord called her home. During 20 years in the Corps, he participated in action against the enemy at Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941, the Battle of Midway Island, Tulagi and Guadacanah in the Soloman Islands and the battle engagements during the war in Korea. He also served as a Military Policeman in the occupation of Japan, then in Tiensen, China. After retiring from the Marines, Al spent five years as a Deputy Sherriff in Orange County, California. After resigning from the Sherriff’s Department he bought a business in Benton California which he later sold. He then bought a home in Carson City, Nevada, and started working with the Nevada Department of Prisons, and eventually retired as a prison guard sergeant in 1982. In 1981 Al was chosen as the “Best employee” for the Nevada Department of Prisons. Finally, Al sold his home in Carson City, and had a home built in Hayden, Idaho.
