Obituary of Herbert John MacDonald

Herbert John MacDonald, 70, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away March 3, 2018 at The Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.  Herbert was born September 20, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio to Herbert and Catherine (Coppola) MacDonald.

Herbert grew up in Columbus where he attended and graduated from High School in 1966.  He then Joined the United States Navy and served two tours in Vietnam.  After his discharge from the Navy Herbert Joined the United States Air Force.  Once he was discharged from the Air Force Herbert moved to the Pacific Northwest settling in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. 

Herbert met Ellen Franta when they were young children.  They were married in 1974 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.  They were married 44 years when Herbert passed. 

Herbert worked for GTE until his retirement.  He loved all the outdoors had to offer including hunting, fishing, and camping.  He was also a Cubs fan and a diehard Seahawks fan.  Herbert was a life member of the VFW Post #889.

He is survived by his loving wife Ellen of the family home in Post Falls, Idaho; three sons Robert MacDonald of Deer Park, Washington, Christopher (Suzanne) MacDonald of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Michael MacDonald of Post Falls, Idaho; two daughters Heather (Jason) Funk of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, and Angela MacDonald of Post Falls, Idaho; Twelve grandchildren Timothy, Michael, Cenedra, Catherine, Lakaylee, Zachary, Micaiah, Ashlynn, Aydah, Aazahn, Hailie, and Aspen; one great-grandchild Athena; one brother George MacDonald of Montana; and two sisters Zena MacDonald of Arizona and Anita Pierce of Florida.  Herbert was preceded in death by his parents. 

A Celebration of Herbert’s Life will be held Friday May 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Christ The King Lutheran Church 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho 83814.  Inurnment will be at St. Thomas Cemetery 115 S. 23^rd St. Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho 83814.
