Obituary of Joan Lillie Gilbert
On Tuesday, January 15, 2019, Joan Lillie Gilbert, loving wife, mother, and sister passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at age 75. Lillie was born January 18, 1943 to Oscar Frans and Verella Fielding Yorgesen and had 3 loving siblings, David, Jack and Ann.
She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Glenn Gilbert in the Salt Lake Temple February 3, 1964. Together they raised four sons, Kurtis (Michelle), Clint, Clark and Grant (Monica) and two daughters, Jill (Scott) and JoAnn (Travis).
Lillie loved Raymond, her family, friends, flowers and adventure. She loved life whether it was climbing Mt Saint Helens or running many races with her children and grandchildren including the “Race the Train” held in Wales, England, where she took first place in her age group.
Lillie was an amazing mother and homemaker. She adored her family and relatives and loved to talk about how they were all doing. Lillie always enjoyed hearing the wonderful things that were going on in their lives. In 2002 she was chosen as Washington States “Mother of the Year”. She loved flowers and gardening and had quite a green thumb. She also loved to sew and was always willing to help others with sewing projects.
Throughout her life Lillie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a great example of serving others with unconditional love.
Lillie is survived by her husband, Raymond of 55 years, her 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11:00am with viewings Tuesday evening January 22, 2019 from 6:30-8:30 pm and before the funeral service from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1200 East Rainier Street, Othello, Washington. Following the funeral service, burial will take place at the Othello Cemetery.
