Obituary of Alvin Royal Harper

Please share a memory of Alvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alvin Harper (Al) was born September 8th, 1935, in Spokane Washington, to Neil and Margaret Harper.

The youngest of three children, Al grew up in Spokane, attended Havermale Jr. High, and graduated from North Central High School.  Al worked at Eggers Meats as a teenager and then joined the Air National Guard. Shortly thereafter, he worked for Gibson Welding.  In 1960 he married the love of his life Joyce, and together they blended a wonderful family. Al was proud to have three sons and a daughter to share his love of the outdoors with.  When he wasn’t hunting or fishing in the woods and waters of Eastern Washington and North Idaho, he was forging a successful career in sales, working in heavy equipment and welding supplies. In 1969 Al and Joyce purchased and began developing their beautiful property in Priest River. Endless summer weekends were spent there, boating, motorcycle riding, running the BBQ, and just enjoying time with friends and family. After retirement, Al and Joyce traveled the U.S., spent winters in Arizona and made Priest River their permanent home. There was nowhere on earth that Al knew better or loved more than North Idaho, teaching his children how blessed they were to live in God’s country.

Al is preceded in death by his parents Neil and Margaret, brother Gordon, son Rodne, and beloved wife Joyce.

He is survived by his lovely sister Doris, his sons Allan Harper and Larry Sevy (Sherry) of Spokane, WA. Daughter Stephanie Suko (Jay) of Hayden, ID. Eleven grandchildren, Mark, Brandy, Jeff, Kendra, Jason, Brian, Tami, Kimberly, Katie, Christian and Wen.

A celebration of life will be held at the Priest River Community Church, Priest River, Idaho. Friday May 17 at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk foundation in Al’s name.
