Obituary of Philip Darrill Carey

Philip Darrill Carey of Mt. Shasta passed away at 82 years of age in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on April 29, 2022. Philip was born on April 12, 1940, in Orosi, CA, to George Carey and Laura Hilton. He graduated from Dunsmuir High School in 1958, then attended Shasta College in Redding, CA, where he graduated with his Associates Degree. He joined the Army National Guard in 1962, serving 38 years before retiring in 2000. He loved to fly. He flew helicopters in the National Guard and flew his own personal airplane. He married his sweetheart and best friend, Bobbie Ann Solheid, in 1965. After a long career as a railroad engineer, he retired from Union Pacific in the early 2000’s. When Phil wasn’t working he was always busy. He loved activities such as cars, wood working, being in the outdoors and spending time with friends. His favorite outdoor activities included snowmobiling, water skiing, boating, motorcycle riding, and going into the mountains in his four-wheel drive. Phil is survived by his wife Bobbie Carey, his daughter Nikki Carey and son-in-law Mark Strazhari, his son John Carey and daughter-in-law Vicki Null-Carey, his grandson Vikelas Carey, and his granddaughter River Carey. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. His funeral service will be held at the Igo Veterans Cemetery on May 9, 2022, at 9:30 am.
