Ron was my best friend. In fact, he was probably a lot of people's best friend. That's just the kind of guy he was. This is the kind of guy he was...
I remember once, when a missionary team from North Carolina came through El Paso on their way to the mountains of Mexico. Their van broke down. Ron did not know these people, yet, on the spur of the moment he lent them his van to take into the mountains of Mexico for over a week. Not many people would do such a thing. Ron did, however, and he did such things frequently. I don't suppose he regrets a single one of them, right now.
He was a special person. If you knew him, then you know that to be true. If you loved him and ever want to see him again, he would tell you to take the path he took. That path is described in this poem:

As a child, I always understood where Ron was coming from, unlike most adults I came across during that time. Ron had a dry sense of humor that was genius and he always managed to make his point crystal clear using as few words as possible. I remember Ron rolling his eyes when Titus and I would throw on a Steven Segal movie. It was the late 80's and looking back on it, he was absolutely right. Oh, and how he despised any movie starring Corey Feldman or Corey Haim. :) He'd sit in his recliner and grab a book until he couldn't take it any longer inevitably banishing us from the living room to Titus's room. He did it all in fun and we knew it. Always some back and forth and a quick quip from Ron putting us on our heels. Those were good times. Every Sunday we would have lunch with the Sears and usually head back to their house for few extra hours. It wasn't every Sunday but for the days in which this did happen, I remember them vividly and fondly.
Ron has a lot of fans and I am one of them. He'll be missed. My condolences to the Sears family.

I will never forget the day Ron saved my life. It was early in the morning of June in 2004. My husband and I had just moved to Coeur d'Alene and were introduced to Real Life Ministries. I was taking things to the thrift store in a strip mall in Post Falls. I had not yet met Ron. I had my arms full when Ron saw me and said, "Let me help you. I'm going there to meet Dave Alverson." I thought, "what a nice gentleman!" Then it happened...
We started to walk and talk and suddenly a very fast moving car was bearing down on us. I was alongside of Ron and was about to step directly into its path. If Ron had not put his arm in front of me, my next step would have been my last! As the car whizzed by, all I saw was a woman's face with her eyes as big as saucers. It was then I knew that Ron was truly a man of God, sent to me to save me from certain death.
Betsy, we have enjoyed many adventures with you and Ron since then, in Mexico and cruising the Mediterranean, or just spending time with you both at home in Idaho. Ron will be missed by us. He just beat us to heaven!
Betsy, know that Del and I love you and we are here to help in any way we can.
Blessings,
Mary (and Del)

I will always remember uncle Ron as man I looked up to. He loved to preach to me,and even though he may not have realized it I was always listening. He loved to come by unannounced and surprise me. He had my Bible for years I didn't realize he had. He gave it back to me at a time I needed it. Distance was between us ,but I will never forget your smile and kind words. You will truly be missed and loved forever. I know you are rejoicing in Heaven and with so many loved ones. Until we see each other again. I love you uncle Ron.
